Berkeley Emerging Technology Association (BETA)
BETA is UC Berkeley's first crypto student organization led by Chinese students, and has completed registration as a U.S. nonprofit. About 70% of its members are from Berkeley, primarily in computer science and data science, while the rest come from Stanford, USC, UCLA, and other universities. Over the past year, BETA hosted an AI Investment Summit with 1,500 participants, an AI x Crypto hackathon with 539 sign-ups, and worked with multiple universities to launch an intercollegiate venture competition. Chinese students in Silicon Valley have long been deeply involved in the blockchain ecosystem, but have lacked a public node led by their own community. GCC's grant will support BETA's year-round activities in 2026, including building an offline DeFi learning space at Berkeley, organizing a Silicon Valley hackathon for around 1,000 participants, and co-hosting a larger AI summit with GenAI Summit.
