Public Fund

The GCC Public Fund is the general pool we use to support public goods and their builders, funded by donations from both individuals and institutions.

We prioritise applications in the following focus areas:

  • Anti-censorship and privacy-preserving cryptography

  • Global talent networks for public goods

  • Free and open source software

  • Governance research and experimentation

The Public Fund accepts applications in batches, and the current round is open. Please choose the form that best matches your needs:

Each round takes roughly 8–12 weeks from submission to decision. If you need a faster, smaller grant, visit the Special Fund page or reach out to our voting committee members for support from their personal allocation. Every member manages an annual budget of USD 9,000.

The GCC voting committee and operations team review every Public Fund application. We focus on the following when making decisions:

  • Alignment with GCC's mission

  • Fit with the priority focus areas

  • Feasibility and potential impact

  • Leadership and team strength

  • Funding needs

We are unable to support applications that:

  • Are clearly fraudulent or involve founders tied to fraudulent projects

  • Threaten the continuity or safety of GCC and its members

  • Keep core components closed-source

  • Have no current or future reach into Chinese-speaking communities

  • Already have abundant funding
